The meeting was a Plethora of entertainment.
Helen MacDonald got our attention with the tale of Hot Brad’s shocking experience of exposing himself to an elderly intruder …. Esther, set the theme Moving On, Moving Forward from her 4 degrees Ice Box to their 22 degrees Tropical Haven.
Today’s speeches couldn’t have been more appropriate for the theme:-
Alannah Vickery – Alannah Karma & the Caravan relived the April dream turned to nightmare. A planned camping adventure while her house was undergoing EQC work hit a stumbling block literally when Alannah was moving a caravan on site and crashed it going up the drive. This wasn’t any caravan it was the pride and joy of her good friend Tina’s, Grandmother’s 1970 gem!
Tina Mackie – Take Me to the River created a vivid picture in our minds of her Solo night in the Bush while on Outward Bound with daughter. Building her own shelter, a drum converted into a toilet, nature’s noises in the night to waking to the most amazing view of the river. Tina shared what she took away from this outside her comfort zone experience – don’t live in the past, don’t over analyse, live and enjoy the now!
Kelvin Newman – Sometimes You Need the Wisdom of a 7 year old, taking us on a camping journey that anyone that has erected a tent can relate to, and those who haven’t would certainly have been able to imagine. From the excitement of the idea, to the surprise that the borrowed tent was not a familiar one, the frustration on trying to do it on your own, when the calm wisdom of the 7 year old held the solution. Many cherished camping memories followed I am sure.
Dennis McGrath led an entertaining Table Topics session adopting the Moving On theme -fantastic effort from our visitor Tina, who won the Toastie Award.
We also had the pleasure of our Area Governor – Heather Fletcher visiting, congratulating us on our Club successes and reminding us about the upcoming Area Speech Contests, 10th Sept – 7pm hosted at Hereford St Toastmasters – YMCA building. Brent Ruru will be competing in the Humourous and Sandra Smith in Table Topics – Good luck from all of us.
