8 August, meeting 747 – a steamlined jet of a meeting, with Toastmaster Vivien competently demonstrating the theme of being a team player. Colin can always be relied upon to do things differently and as Grammarian he lived up to this by using the acronym TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More – dividing us into two teams, with the aim that every speaker was to use the next word of the acronym in their speech. Fierce competition, no doubt some cheating, but the end result was a draw.
Nicola’s speech was about the frustrations, pit falls and joys of learning the ukulele, showing that it’s never too late to try something new. Will there be a duet with Brent sometime??? Rodney’s was an informative, entertaining and encouraging speech about his journey to being on the podium at a TEDx in Tauranga. Stick your neck out like a turtle rather than be a chopper off of heads, the head stickers outers are the more courageous. An inspirational message.
With the Table Topics contest coming up next week, David Clarkson’s enthusiastic educational on handling table topics was very timely. Lots of great tips and suggestions as to how to approach TT so that it doesn’t seem so scary, and can be a lot of fun. All the info from his speech is on the website.
Managing to get nine Table Topics speakers at this meeting Brent must have set a record. His topics covered from kids knowing everything, to heroes, special talents, success, scary things, adventures and heaps more in between. He ensured everyone present had a chance to speak, including our visitor Carl. Well done.
Another great meeting from Team Boaters. Remember the Table Topics Contest next week and even if you decide not to compete, make sure you are there to cheer on those who do. Toastmasters is all about supporting and encouraging others.
