“Plan ahead, but live now” – Toastmaster – Barbara Millar
A great motivating theme for a Friday morning.
Danny De Hek kicked us off with a most entertaining and very humourous tale of his planning for his Grammarian Role – well done Danny
Geoffrey Robinson – Speaker 1 -“Soil” a very thought provoking educational speech about the oil in our soil and while we are focussing on Global Warming we are not focussing enough on the toxins in the soil with some amazing scientific descriptions.
Brent Ruru – Speaker 2 – “Less in More” – a great motivational speech about minimalism and why less is more, assisted by a fantastic power point presentation of photos and personal illustrations, and a reminder of why Claire has so many odd socks in her cupboard!
David Clarkson – Speaker 3 – “Confessions of a Window Gazing Corner Hugger” a very personal and relatable insight of David’s journey losing confidence to almost a recluse level and how through toastmasters he was able to turn that around, a topic near and dear to our hearts.
Table Topics – Colin Clapp – No Opportunity Wasted
Getting Rid of Excuses – Deb McAlpine – gave a humourous and realistic take on this topic, with many excuses used by all of us
Fear – Steven Mydlowski – although fear is often a perception in our head admitted that his motorbike scares him
Get Lost – Alannah Vickery – described her self-discovery journey following the earthquake including travelling on her own
Test Your Limits – Claire Ruru – gave the example through a Charity Bike Ride journey from Bluff to Cape Reinga
Thanks Barbara for a great meeting and your inspirational quotes.
