I felt far more casual about preparing for the role of General Evaluator this week. I was full of confidence after my first time of being Toastmaster. As a consequence of this bold step of mine I thought I’ll just prepare my stuff on Thursday night. Its gonna be easy. I’ll make a list of what people I need to evaluate from the Agenda . Set these names out on a sheet of paper and make some notes as I go. I’m going to watch out for the things that we have to do. C. R. C. S. Commendation , Recommendation. Commendation / Challenge and Summary.
I reckon I got this thing sorted. Now i can relax and watch some Tele and some more me time. I’m sorted.
Thursday evening seemed to arrive really quick. I sit down to compile my list and ohhh the Agenda has got some ? marks . Some folk have not accepted roles. Whom will I be evaluating. Had I followed the email trail to see who had or not accepted what. I was not “involved”. I need not really worry so much. I had 2 roles already I need not take on another role.
First role – writing this Blog . I am finding writing posts just as valid as writing a speech. So its practice . I’m keen for this method of speech writing as it were.
Second role – General Evaluator. This role is far more important but I placed it second in my noggin and It bit me.
Friday morning arrives – Its now late today we are getting in later and we are off to a late start. Jacqui has volunteered to be timekeeper. Kevin gets us stated as Sergeant of Arms and starts us off in a fabulous way. [meanwhile] Jacqui and I are getting the timer app running, she’s forgotten her glasses . So I’m helping us both learn the app and timing . We now both rush our Toastmaster on as the app says 2 minutes but its meant to be three.
So it’s mean and lean to begin with. I’ve got my list at the ready. I’m trying to make notes and very sparse they are now watching for points I can talk to when it comes time to deliver my general evaluation.
I’m also thinking …whats the blog post going to be like . Will I be able to mention that “pre hab rehab ” or can I walk like an “oxymoron” . Will I get to mention how well Louise’s running story was so good.
Or that Cameron ..invented a new use for fridges that is a million times better than a TV screen on the front door.
Did I forget to evaluate the 3rd Evaluator – That’s a big yes . So now as I am still processing the meeting. What a fantastic job Sabine did of illustrating to us all how to challenge us more.
What else did I forget …the protocols . Welcome the C.R.C.S . I’m learning and I noticed that the wheels come off occasionally. Its the structure and repetition that helps us all keep on track. Its the whole thing that is prepared for orchestrated so we can all learn in unison the part that we all play in this way of learning. I think it is beginning to sink in the way everything comes together in this cohesive meeting that trains us all to be toastmasters. Learning with confidence , learning how to work the room . How to be the room. Maybe Bruce Lee was right we become the room.
- Multitasking – yeah nah
- Many roles – maybe
- Fundamentals – its a must have
- Intuition – go with it .
